A presentation by Masters Degree students in the Counseling-Marriage and Family Therapy program at San Diego State University (SDSU), Erika Hess and Adriana Villa, along with guest speakers: Rufus Hannah and Marvin Bradshaw who share their own experiences of being homeless.
This classroom presentation on homelessness was for a course entitled "Multi-Cultural Family Therapy " which takes a social justice approach aiming to "bridge the classroom and the community and work towards providing equal access and opportunity in mental health care to all groups." This presentation was videotaped and posted on youtube to share experiences of homelessness with the general public.
The students also conducted a short online survey to learn more about the public's beliefs about homelessness as well as barriers in approaching and interacting with people who are homeless. The hope is to use what was learned as a springboard for future research.
