http://www.survivalistboards.com/showthread.php?t=75510 Snake bites are a serious danger when hiking and camping. If you or one of your friends were bitten while on a hiking or camping trip, what should you do for first aid?

I posted some pictures at the link in the video description.

  • The difference between a boy snake and girl snake is... Boy snakes always stand up to hiss. Girl snakes sit down when they're hissing.

    Teehee

  • Eastern Cottonmouth. Pit viper closely related to Rattlesnake and Copperhead. Venom is Hemotoxic. Causes blood vessels to rupture. This pit viper snake can deliver the most painful venom from snake bite, versus neurotoxin which affects the CNS. It can also deliver varying amounts of venom - anywhere from a dry bite, to a full dose. They can be aggressive and will stand their ground. One minute they are nice, the next they will try to hunt you down and try to kill you. Sounds like my wife.

  • @ReeperzOutdoors for sure brother... my friends Smith and Wesson would of made sure of that.. just for the fact to not have dangerous snakes around my kids!!! I know some people think all things need to live and be happy.. but the fact of the matter is if it can harm me I WILL KILL IT plane and simple

  • That sucka would have never made it to the hole.........lol

  • always carry a compression bandage and EPIRB. Immobilization is key. Never remove the venom from around the wound, it's used for identification. Never catch and kill, you'll get bitten again.

In ɐılɐɹʇsnɐ it really is life or death. I would be interested to hear national protocol from other countries.

I always lol at "kill at". That's when your going to get bitten.

  • that is a cottonmouth bud

  • Will forgive me but that snake would be dead.I'm not go na be walk'en around while a live cotton mouth is around, to me the dam thing is a dead snake

  • if a snake bit me i wouldnt go over the HEEL ... i'd try to take OFF THE HEEEL lol sorry for making fun of the accent but it was too funny

  • i think the first thing id do is rattle off a number of curse words and then proceed to beat the living daylights out of it with a stick.

  • I think the is a cotton mouth

  • tank god most all we deal with in colorado are rattlers. they let you know they are there and aren't usually found in the open on a hot day. don't stick your foot into a rock crevis or in a dark dank place during the day. if you hear the rattle. stand still and it will eventually get bored and crawl off. if not back off very slowly. the rattle basically says don't step on me.

  • Most importantly: you need medical attention! Unless you keep vials of antivenin on your person, you’ll definitely need help as soon as possible.

Just as a note: this type of first aid is meant for bites on the limbs and extremities. In a case of a facial or torso bite your only chance is professional emergency attention, though you should still try to remove as much venom as possible.
