If u wanna play it correctly, just hold it more upright, play only one string at a time, and only use your pointer finger. The only other finger u use is your second finger at the end of a progression.

This is the same way I started out. It a lot of fun, I almost miss it. It's sort of like the ultimate jangly guitar. But proper technique is really satisfying too. Cheers!

Interesting, but I think you should really try to learn true sitar technique, I fiddled around with it for a while to, but when I was taught the real technique I appreciated the instrument so much more. It's only then that you develope real speed and grace. Good luck.
