Possibly, it is a combination of high shutter speed and low frame rate, but at any rate (!): the effect is somewhat unnerving.

  • This was taken with an iphone wasn't it? I think it has something to do with the unusual direction the camera scans from. Google iphone Propellers and you'll see the same thing.

  • Can't you see? the propellor blades are manufactured at the bottom of the engine, and disassembled at the top!

  • This is caused by the cameras lens being a CMOS rather than a CCD. CCD lenses have their own issues.
