1991 NRHS convention highlighted by Nickel Plate 765 and Pere Marquette 1225 running side-by-side and doubleheading. Most action on the former C&O mainline from Huntington, WV(now CSX), although there were 2 trips operated on Norfolk Southern from Kenova, with Norfolk and Western 2-6-6-4 Class A
1218. These trips turned out to be the last time it was in this area of operation.

  • audio is messed up, only on the left...

  • Not messed up. Remember this was 1991!!! We had mono mics back then. Train sounds on one channel, narration on the other...so there is audio on both!!! This preview was from a tape preview, thus audio is split. DVD has audio on both I believe. For further info contact me via the GSVP web site.

  • Glad somebody still has this event available on DVD. Pentrex won't convert this one from VHS and you can't get the VHS version anymore.

  • Great looking Berkshire Class S-2 Steamers, I have great memories with the old Steamers. Great video.

  • I bought this way back in about 93. The camera work and general editing was great. However, to my mind there was way too much unnecessary whistling. Half the time you can't hear the engine because of the bloody whistle.

  • @foroke1 so she wore how many whistles?? just curious

  • @Strasburg1991 New whistle.

  • why does 1225s whistle sound so different from today?? camera maybe

  • I had this on tape since I was a little kid. I used to watch it (as well as other train video production tapes) just as much as I did Thomas the Tank Engine back then. No wonder why I'm such a smart train enthusiast as an adult. :)

  • @robertgift well the simple answer is STEAM! Steam does not operate on a regular basis anymore, and its rare that two are under steam at the same place at once! Thus the double headder. Double headding steam is also a railroad's answer on how to get two steamers to their destination at once. Thus limmiting any delays to regular train operations.

  • Wow Two engines side-by-side? Big deal. Stupid waste.

Two engines pulling one train? Why?

    Better to have ONEngine working.

  • What you Should do is put this on Youtube rentals for a few bucks so someone could pay to watch it for say two days and then if they want to watch it again they have to pay for another two days
