Thomas Tallis was one of the greatest British composers and during his lifetime wrote music under four monarchs: Henry VIII, Edward VI, Queen Mary, & Queen Elizabeth I.
Numbered CIX in the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book (FVB), "Felix Namque" ( of which this is the first; there are actually two pieces bearing this name in the FVB by Tallis ) is a tour-de-force keyboard fantasia. My version here is re-arranged for two acoustic guitars and has been transposed down a minor 3rd to E minor.
** Note: 1562 was an interesting year: it would see the births of three of the world's greatest composers: Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, Hans Leo Hassler & Dr. John Bull.
