Wikipedia describes the message: "...The difficulties and responsibilities faced by children appear, including the ongoing story of a boy's experience of an abusive home. Truffaut gives a message of resilience in the face of injustice, vocalized through one of the teachers..."

@Winchensaft Ah, but that is the whole pleasure of the film; let movies like these illuminate your own life - let them illustrate the beautiful details of everyday existence that we usually may not notice - let it take you on a journey of quiet, subtle and new perception. These kind of "slice of life" movies are all about a flavor, all about a mood.
