The start of a great soup relies on a good broth. Don't use those packaged cubes or canned broth that is full of salt and MSG. Make your own delicious broth simply with very few ingredients. It's much better for you, and cheaper. This video shows how to make delicious chicken broth with only four ingredients I'm sure you have around your kitchen.

"MSG is bad for you!" is pretty much solid media hype. MSG's just the artificial version of naturally occurring chemicals that you get everywhere in the food world. Hell, if you've ever had japanese food you downed a good wad of it.

You shouldn't use Bouillon cubes because they're just salt, MSG, and food coloring. They do nothing for the food. Make real broth, and get an MSG shaker at an asian market, just to see what a difference it makes.

@LordOmberus MSG makes my heart race, and my mother's too. MSG is far more potent than any natural dosage of it in natural food. It is overkill, and like anything, too much is not good. I don't agree with your comment. The over use of this chemical is not necessary in food. They are just trying to save money. My Chinese food place does not use it, I've asked. A good cook would never use the stuff, he doesn't need to.

what if you find a chicken or broth cube with the msg lower would you still be able to use that or would it be to still unhealthy?

@MrDannyGZ Small amounts of msg are pretty harmless. The further down on the list msg is, the less harm it will do. The packages I throw away in this video had msg as the second or third ingredient on the list.

@billys652 Aparently it's called a "fat mop". If you Google that, the first result is an Ebay item. There it is! Other results come up as well. It shouldn't be hard to find one. They are amazing and I use mine a lot. It doesn't seem to soak up any of the broth, just the fat. I couldn't live without it.

It's possible it's entirely psychosomatic, or you could have an underlying heart condition that's being irritated. I can eat MSG laden food with no problem, as can most people.The problem comes when people try to use it as a substitute for real flavors, instead of using it to add to those that are already there.
