Before it went up in smoke, would you recomend it?

It is clunky but it is also robust. It looked like a rugged mechanism. From that point of view: yes I can recommend it if you don't mind opening en closing it manually.

2 weeks after making this video it went up in smoke. I made a deal with the shop and swapped it with a non-indash screen with better brightness. (600 cd/m2) I never got the chance to test the radio.
This vid is just to show how it's opened/closed since it isn't motorized. The image was crisp and clear and the touchscreen performed ok. With this screen you have to apply power to the 'light switch'-wire the very first time you connect it otherwise it doesn't work at all. After that it works ok.

how big of a screen is that?

The screen is 7" and has a built in AM/FM radio receiver. You can find it on cartft-dot-com.
