Episode 7 of the Channel Five series Kings & Queens, which looks at the life and reign of Elizabeth I of England

The series looks at key monarchs in the history of England and gives some simplified facts about their reigns. This is a good series for those who have little prior knowledge of English history.

  • 2:18 A BOO GA BOO GA BOO GA! ARGRGAGRGHH!! UR SOO CUTEE! >.<

  • @PrincessKLS Yes he did. His son Henry, named for him, lived the longest, but he succumbed to disease I believe. Possibly tuberculosis.

  • @Synnerligen Look at what happened to Elizabeth's mother. And how her own status would go from Princess to illegitimate "Lady Elizabeth" as her father married a new stepmother. Also look at Elizabeth's sister Mary, who was bitterly unhappy, abandoned and lonely after her marriage to King Phillip. Then of course she had all the plotting around her when she was Mary's heir. So why marry and create her own problem?

  • @Synnerligen that's why her virginity is so mysterious, at the time of her reign, it would've been crucial for a monarch to have a cemented heir to ensure continuation of her bloodline but she never did. Although her virginity and lack of ah usband did help her.

  • @Synnerligen I believe the reason she had no children is because she thought that her family has done enough to the country or she wasn't fertile

  • I wonder too why she never married and had children..After all, isn't producing an heir the most important duty for a queen/king?

  • @TheEnglishAtheist1 I think by the number of likes it is you that is the idiot.

  • @AikokoXD well yes of course she was very socially competent and i reckon that's why people like robert dudley fell in love with her (supposedly) - and of course i wouldn't call her hideous. she wasn't a traditional beauty but nor was her mother anne boleyn - and she managed to seduce henry viii (again, supposedly)

  • @b95632 I agree, she's very inspirational to me too

  • 4:59 Wow. That room is beautiful...
