you might be right by saying that history is written by the victor, but it is "our" responsibility, especially in this day and age with all the technology and open resources, to educate ourselves thoroughly, if you want to make statements such as, "beware of history written by the victor"

@benthejrporter The Britons did not have a leader like Arminius who led the Germanic warriors to defeat the Romans at Teutonberg Forest in 9AD. Arminius was raised in Roman and understood the strength and weakness of the Roman Legions. He chose a battlefield where Roman fighting style would be useless and Germanic fighting styles would gain advantages over the Romans. The defeat was so great that Rome never attempt to expand beyond the River Rhine which served as the border with Germanic lands.

@MrLantean That's right. The Celtic broadswords are meant to be used when the swordsman has a lot of space to move around. So once they were caught in the crowd between their wagons and the advancing Romans they couldn't use them.

@benthejrporter No doubt that the Britons were very brave, courageous and fearless of death but they were undisciplined and fought as individual warrior rather a large cohesive military machine like the Roman Legions. Against a well-equiped and discipline army, the best method is guerrila warfare which the Britons should have continued and chose battles where their style of fighting give them the advantage over the Romans.

what these tv series fail to show is that in Transalpine Gaul (actual France, called Transalpine to distinguish it from the so called Cisalpine Gaul i.e. North of italy) what happened was a genocide.....If something like that should occurr in these times the whole world would raise against it. Now I think you have the right perspective about those times which are something Europe should not be proud of
