gives me chills everytime i'm listening to it. such a calm song, without any anger or hate or stuff...just a calm expression of forgiveness and having accepted that you're not able to do anything...impressive. love it. <3

This song is clearly about depression and someone's suicide and the aftermath of it among those that knew the person.

Lene Marlin has herself been suffering form some pretty serious mental problems, she took 3 years off after her first big album was such a success. I think This song is only about being depressed, "people saw you fought but they never thought you`d fall" meaning people have seen you struggling, but no one thought you where so depressed "you`d fall" meaning kill yourself. both fighting and falling in this song are images she is using that have another meaning.
Thats what I think :o)

also it's amazing how sensitive some people seem to the idea of interpreting the lyrics as describing a suicide. the channel description talks about the appeal of the idea of someone sacrificing their life in war is "more heroic".. why does the story of the song have to about something heroic?
Ideas like the life being a sacred gift are of course purely religious in nature. Suicide is a tragic event whenever it happens but if let's respect other peoples' choices that doesnt directly harm others

it's obviously about a suicide

thank you for sharing. Your dad would see all this somehow.
JENIFERDB look ar the movie 300. Leonidas is going to a fight in that he is sure he will die, and he say so. But, even he know that the fight will be the last, he doesn`t want to give up. Suicide has many forms. It`s not only when someone takes his life because he had a heart broken (that is the most common point of view, and the most borring :P ) This is another point of view about suicide.

Thinking about it, he still comitted suicide but... honestly, now, isn't this a better and a more heroic point of view?

This song has an open story. It is about a person who can't accept his destiny and decides to change it one way or another. In a desperate moment, he chooses to carry a fight that was meant to be lost. The idea of going to war is different enough from the idea of suicide. So I wanted to represent that one: he left to war without consulting his family or anyone who loved him. He went on search of his inner peace and never came back...
