"Mossland" documents a series of performances and natural installation projects carried out by Pacific Northwest College of Art (PNCA) Intermedia students in the Art & Religion Collective with LA artist Trina McKillen on the moss-covered lava beds at the base of Mount Saint Helens near Portland, Oregon, in the spring of 2007. The Collective is devoted to exploring the relation of the image to what is deemed sacred, taboo, or simply inaccessible to the light of day with a focus on the question of representation and representability, and is interested in the question, How does the artist render the invisible, the deniable, the forbidden, the uncanny, or the unbelievable without damaging or destroying it?
