First prominent land holder in Manhattan was muslim and it was a century before the US independance. It was Anthony Janszoon Van Salee, son of Jan Janszoon Van Salee who was a dutch navy admiral converted to Islam and working for the Sultan of Morocco in the moroccan city of Salé (" Van Salee" meaning "from Salé" ). His mother was moroccan and he was himself called half moroccan or turk. He was known to defend the minorities in what would become New York. Definitely this center have its place.

'Islamaphobia' is a ridiculous word. It's just a buzz word used to shout down anyone who criticizes Islam. It's a silencing techinique, like being called a racist if someone doesn't get thier way.

A phobia is a fear, not a legitimate concern connected to the core fundementals of a religion. But to have a legitimate fear of a religion that oppresses women, trys to kill those who oppose it, murders homosexuals, hates freedom, resents 'infidels' etc. Well, then your 'islamaphobia' is justified.

Now why would they have a mosque not too far from ground zero? Makes you go "hmmmmm".

then there's the fact that the westboro baptists, for all their bigoted rhetoric, have never actually resorted to violence. if baptists blew up an 8 year old kid and blew of 20 people's limbs I think a bit of "baptist-ophobia" would be natural.

I love how ppl try to say it's not close to ground zero yet landing gear & parts of the plane's fuselage crashed through the roof, and they just found another piece of landing gear in an alley behind the building. "Islamaphobia" would suggest that it's an innate & irrational fear, it's not, it's a conscious rejection of a violent & archaic religion.

Here's the difference, WBC is universally hated and Christians don't blame gay marriage laws for WBC's behavior, nor do they justify or rationalize what they do and blame somebody else as muslims love to do when confronted about the issue of Islamic terrorism, they just condemn them as pieces of shit. And what about the idea that if somebody insults the prophet they have what's coming to them, that doesn't seem like a fringe element of islam.
