Adjusting the motor brushes and smoothing the commutator on the air compressor in Cleveland car 1227 Seashore Trolley Museum Kennebunkport, Maine March 22, 2007 Great sparking!! We fired it up yesterday (Mar 29 2007) after the adjustment was made last week, and there wasn't a bit of sparking. The brush holder is designed to be adjusted for "minimum sparking" just like the early Van Depole motors.

  • Im your first comment and relavant I had a compressor quit on me and I opened it up to clean the commutator of buildup of graphite and the brushes were deformed so I reshaped those and put it back together again.
