On September 22, 2009, Carnegie Mellon University officially dedicated the Gates Center for Computer Science and Hillman Center for Future Generation Technologies. Former Carnegie Mellon faculty member Rick Rashid, now senior vice president for research at Microsoft, inaugurated the 246-seat Rashid Auditorium in the Hillman Center, made possible by his personal gift to the university and by individuals' donations of named seats.
