In search of an expert answer as to whether Nowruz is a political and/or religious event, University of Chicago seemed like a credible institution to go to.

On Wednesday, November 7, 2012, we spoke with Doctor Franklin Lewis, Associate Professor of Persian, Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at University of Chicago.

Professor Lewis is also President of The American Institute of Iranian Studies and Deputy Director of Center for Middle Eastern Studies.

In conclusion;
Nowruz is, spring festival, a cultural celebration tied to spring which begins at the vernal equinox and continues for twelve (12) days!
