This is Paul with Aradani Studios. My brother and I have been designing our Tron costumes, and thought we would document the way that we mod our discs so that if you like, you can have a more accurate disc than the standard issue toy. The items needed for this mod include:

Tron Disc toy
2 ft, EL wire from www.elwirepros.com (with Quick connector)
3V Inverter (http://www.coolight.com/product-p/cl-iptc-3v-3-7ft.htm)
12V LED strip from eBay, from seller formula-j87
12V battery holder, Radio Shack
Double AAA battery holder, Radio Shack

Part Two covers mounting the EL Wire and LED Strip to the toy disc. Look for more soon!

  • What size EL wire did you use?

  • @facexstfu I used 5mm EL Wire from EL Wire Pros.

  • Hello! Huge fan of your accomplishments with modding this disc. I have a question for you about the switches since my electronic lingo is terrible. I was wondering if a single pull, double throw switch would do the trick.. If perhaps you can give me just a small sentance about what switches can run in your parallel design so I know what to look for when I go to "The Source" (Canadian Radio Shack) I'd be very thankful!

    Cheers.

  • @DeathLilly You need 2 switches for this project, and they could both be single pole, single throw, but Radio Shack tends to be limited in what they sell. I buy the "heavy duty" switches so that they have a better, and more durable feel to it. These tend to only be sold as DPDT. I am not a big electronics guy either, but I do understand the switches stuff (at least the switch that you need for this project). A single pole, double throw would be fine.

  • i was wondering where you found the 12v battery holder i checked radio shack but they dont have 12v

  • @TheMagicChef24 Certain stores don't carry them, I found out the other day. Even though your Radio Shack may be a project store, some of those don't carry various LEDs, battery holders, etc. I suggest ordering it online. thanks!
