I love the way the Deltics just fire right up, but I assume there was a lot of work to get to that point. The others seem to spend half an hour occasionally firing on one cylinder before another decides to chip in and then the rest come along for the ride. I remember seeing my brother off on a train in Newcastle late 60s or early 70s and hearing the Deltic fire up just like that. It's funny how some sounds stay with you.
