spikefive...believe it or not, fleas can survive a midwestern winter by living near dryer vents in micro-environments under bushes, etc. Most are killed by a hard frost, but there are areas where they can survive.  AND...crazy winters were the temps are in the 60, 70s or 80s are not unheard of in the midwest.
