President Obama explains and elaborates on his remarks regarding the arrest of Louis Gates. In doing so, he asserts that both sides overacted, and invites Mr. Gates and Officer Cowley to the White House for a beer.
But another comment I will make. If you watch the original news conferance that caused all this the President is ask to comment on the situation in Iran (all the protesting over the election). The President states that he doesn't have enough information yet to comment on the Iran situation, but when ask about the Professors situation he states that he doesn't have all the facts and then he goes on to say the "Police department acted stupidly!" I feel his words didn't help the situation at all.
I am a police officer and when I first started police work I responded to a call similar to this. I didn't know the man when I got on scene and I insulted the man when I ask to see his ID. I beleave that he felt insulted because I asked to see his ID and he was a city counselman. Some people beleave that everyone should know them and it is an insult for people to not know them and some people get mad at the police just being at their home. I don't know if something similar 2 this happened or not
But if the Professor comes outside, as he did by neighbors accounts and is yelling (loud enough for the police officers radios to pick up) and will not calm down, then this becomes a disorderly situation and a arrest can be made. If you listen to the police radio traffic recordings you can hear the Professor yelling and cursing in the background after the police officers contact there dispatch to contact the university police to varify that the Professor was whom he was and live at the residence
I agree w/ the 1st part of your statement, but respectfully disagree about the arrest being "not neccessary--an overreaction." I think we both would agree that the police received a call about a possible B&E in progress. In this case the police have a obligation 2 check out the call. When the police arrive & find the Professor lives there then the possible B&E call is over.
You are very kind and generous. I hope your child is, too, when he is told that despite his higher grades and better qualifications, he will not get that scholarship or get into that program or get that job or get that promotion because of racist people like you who believe that blacks are inferior and must be given handouts. Deal with your racism, don't make others pay for it.
Except for his first reply to a press reporter's question on the Cowley-Gates incident, Obama should ot have said or done anything. Apologizing and inviting to beer party just shows that this country is not run by elected officials. It's really run by it's majority white bureaucracy.
Your correct. Not every incident between a white police officer and a black citizen is a racial issue; however, due to the many(both documented and undocmented) offenses in the past and SOME recent incidents, the fact is, as the President stated, natural suspicion arises even in just instances--it's a consequence of the human condition. That being said, I personally don't believe this incident was purely a race issue. But you have to agree that an arrest was not neccessary--an overreaction
"Two good people...", but the President sides immediately against the police officer not hearing his side. Then the "Good" Professor, as a black male, immediately claims racism. The police officers were trying to make sure the "Good" Professors home wasn't being broken into. What would have happened if his home was being broken into & the officers hadn't did anything? Yes racism goes on in America & there are racist cops but I love how it's immediately racism before anyone looks at the incident.

Do you think you're doing black people a favor with your 'there, there" condescending liberal racism? "Patience is necessary & appropriate."
