I use a magnet from a dead HDD. Two "strokes" with the screwdriver on the magnet are enough to get a nice magnetic power.

how does a demagnatiser work?
a magnatiser i know how; a magnet aligns the iron atoms to form a magnetic pole, can i build a make shift magnetiser?
