The End of the World (1973)

Skeeter Davis with a cover of this pop hit song. Recorded in December 1968 and released on the album 'Closest Thing To Love' in 1969. Later on the Camden album mentioned above. The song was written by Chip Taylor and originally made famous by Merrilee Rush (it was pitched first to Connie Francis but she turned it down) who had a #7 U.S. hit with it on Billboards hot 100. Later its been covered by P.P. Arnold, Juice Newton, Billie Davis, The Pretenders and others.

Lyric:
There'll be no strings to bind your hands not if my love can't bind your heart
And there's no need to take a stand for it was I who chose to start
I see no reason to take me home I'm old enough to face the dawn

Just call me angel of the morning angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me baby
Just call me angel of the morning angel
Then slowly turn away from me

Maybe the sun's light will be dim and it won't matter anyhow
If morning echo says we've sinned well it was what I wanted now
And if we're victims of the night I won't be blinded by the light

Just call me angel of the morning angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me baby
Just call me angel of the morning angel
Then slowly turn away
I won't beg you to stay with me
Through the tears of the days of the years

Baby baby just call me angel of the morning angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me baby
Just call me angel of the morning angel
Just touch my cheek before you leave me baby

  • @manbehindthescreen1 no it didn't, people did this song before Merrilee Rush

  • Chip wrote this and offered it to connie francis but she turned it down, Billie Davis was First UK release but it was recorded by a few people in USA

  • o'skeeter I love you'skeeter

  • hey guys, thank you so much for the informations...

  • @brodcaster1956 No Billie Davis had a hit back 1965+-. I am not sure if she was the first. She may well have been. Juice Newton also covered the song amongst others.

  • @brodcaster1956 From what I read Chip Taylor wrote the music and lyrics.a group called the turnabouts along with singer Merrilee had recorded it first then Skeeter Davis, also in 1981 Juice Newton

  • @17321799 OOPPs, my bad, I was thingking of "Juice" not "Skeeter", Agreed, rregards,

  • @17321799 ?? Why the RIP? haven't found anything of her demise?

  • I may be wrong but this seems like a rude response. There was only one perfect person in this world and they crucified him. Until you can walk on water you may want to consider being a little less critical of others.

  • Beautiful!
