This is the clearest example of sorcery I've witnessed. The man is a warlock with some sort of magic finger. ...or it has something to do with the science stuff everyone else on here is talking about. Either way it has to be stopped.

@Andromedan yep your correct!

Capacitive coupling :)

To test that yourself, wrap a grounded piece of foil around the tube, it will light up to that point just the same.
I did a neat demo by wrapping the (well insulated) hot lead of a 2k NST around my ankle several times and holding a FL by the glass with the cold lead clipped to one electrode.
Lights up very brightly by modulating the body's capacitance, you dont feel a thing despite carrying a 2k potential through your entire body.
No vids I'm afraid, I dont post on the Tube anymore.

Hey Kubikop.
What you are seeing is capacitance.
The FL lights because inside is a vacuum and a coating of phosphor. When powered theres a stream of electrons rushing into the tube - a vacuum arc that emits UV light. The phosphor intercepts and re-emits these photons at lower energies making them visible. When you disconnect one end there is no circuit, much like between the plates of a capacitor. Adding mass (you) to the outside of the tube simply creates a capacitive field on the inside.

@ZincFold I just built one of these and have a little static eliminator keychain that lights when in contact with an object that has static electricity. Getting close to the circuitry not touching, causes my detector to go off. Not sure what this means since this circuit is already known to have wireless effects, but maybe it really is static electricity?

i did this just yesterday ..its cool..some of those cheap pc inverters will work with a 9v batery but just less step up. but still really fun to play with ..

yep, just like mine!
the reason this works is because since one of the lamp terminals have been removed the current is now flowing from the lamp, through the glass, through you and then to the ground

Yeah but have you seen my one wire tesla setup?

Great stuff. I have seen this while tinkering with back EMF pulsing through dual coil transfer. I see your setup uses a transformer which is basically the same thing. I have found the output to be static in nature I'm guessing a type of Tesla coil effect. Love to see your schematic. Keep up the great tinkering and thanks for sharing ;-)
