to be perfectly honest, Marvel's influence in the creation of Cobra is actually quite obvious if you look hard enough. The Baroness, Anastasia DeCobray, is basically an evil analogue of Natasha Romanoff, The Black Widow, whereas Destro could quite easily come off as an evil parody of Tony Stark without his Iron Man suit, save for the mask, and CC's original comic book origin, most well known outfits and flair for the grandiose all borrow from Doctor Doom

i find it funny that even tho G. I. Joe has been a Hasbro property since the 1960s, it was Marvel Comics who invented Cobra and created the G. I. Joe mythos that has existed since the 80s. Admittedly, Sunbow's writers fucked up by assuming they could out-do Marvel...thus cartoon Cobra Commander was an idiot, cartoon Serpentor was more of a laughable douche than a real threat, and we have them to thank for the ridiculousness that was Cobra-La
