This is the Creepy Critter. It was an attempt at modeling the leg configuration of a spider, but it proved rather difficult to angle the legs away from the body and keep them moving at the same time. So in the end, I made the legs parallel to the body.

The four legs on either side are synchronized mechanically via a series of 24T gears. The two sides are then kept synchronized by the RCX via rotation sensors.

This clip shows a simple movement test. The robot moves forward a bit, then start turning on the spot.

  • Why is this gay? Because you're too dumb to understand the mechanics of it?

  • Because the ends of the Lego pieces that make up the legs, you should upload a video of the walker maneuvering over a carpeted area, as it would not scrape the floor and would move without as much loss in distance due to the increased friction between the legs and the carpet ;)
