He's actually picking bugs off of him. Many birds do this to different types of animals. The titmouse is looking into the fur, the 'possum is holding still and lets him. It's more "Titmouse versus flea or tick".

maybe opossum is no the prettiest animal (althought i think neither the ugliest one) but also this ain´t no the cruelest one , i mean, c´mon , thy´re a little shine and peaceful if you don´t bother them, so let´s learn to love this admirable marsupial as we do with all animals ,i think they´re amazing.
