On Wednesday, a heated debate turned violent in one South Korean city. Lawmakers in Seoul's Metropolitan Council scuffled over a bill. The hot-button issue? Whether to provide free lunches to the city's public school students.

A brawl breaks out between South Korean lawmakers. South Korean council members of the ruling party and opposition party fought with each other at a meeting on Wednesday... over whether to pass a law giving free lunches for students attending public schools.

Democratic Party members are in support of a bill that would give free meals to all elementary and middle school students in Seoul starting next year. But the governing Grand National Party, or GNP, opposes the bill.

During a meeting, council members from both parties physically fought and yelled at each other. Some women were pushed to the ground by other members at the podium.

The GNP and President Lee Myung-bak have made clear their objection to the blanket provision of free lunches, saying benefits should be limited to low-income families and expanded gradually.

After a few rounds of scuffling, Democratic Party members dragged GNP members away from the podium.

In a move that was largely symbolic, the Democratic Party voted to pass the bill without the support of the GNP.

The opposition party has since requested the mayor to submit a reconsideration of the bill.

  • @theamazingempiricist War or no war I don't think there country is in the financial state to even be able to provide free lunches. I am glad the states don't do this... It would be an outrage.

  • Lmao fruitiest brawl on earth

  • @fcia

I agree with you his priorities are definitely misplaced, but the GNP is still a lot better than the alternative. the so-called "Democratic" party just wants to appease Kim Jong Il.

  • @TheTollundWoman - Sorry I disagree with you. It may surprise you that while Lee Myung Bak was sitting comfortable in a bunker, our young soldiers in YeonPyeong Island did not even have a bullet proof vest to protect them. The young soldier did not even have a working cannons to fire back to NK attack. Draft dodging Lee was more interested in 4 rivers project and throwing away $40 billion than protecting the young lives that protect Korea from NK attacks. Draft dodger is a draft dodger.

  • @fcia

Lee Myun Bak is a hero for stopping the disastrous "sunshine policy", supporting the North Korean Human Rights Law and standing up to Kim Jong Il. The GNP are fighting for freedom

  • GNP and Lee Myung Bak spent $40 billion on a river digging project designed for financially supporting construction companies which supported LMB's presidential election. While free lunch for the rich construction companies is inline with their political ambitions, free lunch program for the children (less than 1% of what they give to the construction companies) is considered an "welfare". WELFARE for the rich for political votes must stop.

  • @m1keha yeah faggot I am proud of our government shows that the politicians show passion in their work. WTF what do you mean of course lunch should he payed by the government idk where your from but I pay for my food. I'm not a poor fucker like you who has no money and has reduced lunch. And about the pride thing people were saying "this is why I'm embarrassed of being Korean"wtf is that politicians fighting each other is the reason why? Stfu dude you don't even know what your talking about.

  • Who on earth would you vote against such a bill, how evil do you have to be.

    "Hey you wanna feed children?"

    "Nah fuck that!"

  • @futuristic3swagg Our country is the number 1 superpower in the entire world. You don't "become" a superpower by doing nothing.

You guys are fighting over free lunches when North Korea/South Korea are on a brink of war. Good job sir.

  • @Jeehoonk lol? I am korean.. So your fking proud of our government being run by these guys? If its school luch, of course it should be provided by the government, who is using the citizen's hard working taxes! You really should feel some sense of what government is there to protect!! IT's not pride, but common sense!! What is there to fight over fist about? it has nothing to do with having "Korean pride", this is outrageous!! IF your Korea, then have some sense of what's going on in korea!!
