In search of the strongest joinery for tables and chairs Custom Carving has created a finger mortise and tenon. The weakest part of a mortise and tenon is the constant motion and vertical use. Not only do our joints meet inside the chair leg, but are joined with a finger joint to make them almost indestructible for generations. The standard mortise and tenon is cut in various ways, cleaned by hand with precision knives. We then pass the aprons through the finger joint template, check and mark each of the joints, glue, then further shape the joints before sanding and finish. In this way, we come up the very strongest in table and chair legs as well our ability to create dynamic shapes in our furnishings.

  • MUSIC SOUNDS LIKE TINARIWEN!

  • Great technique and skill. Video was kind of choppy. Not sure if it was my phone or the vid.
