Noha (Arabic: نوحہ‎) is a genre of Arabic, Persian, or Urdu prose depicting the martyrdom of the 12 Holy Imams.

Imam Husayn ibn Alī AS (حسين بن علي )‎ (3rd Shabān 4 AH - 10th Muharram 61 AH or about 8 January 626 AD to 10 October 680 AD) was the son of Imam Alī (A) ibn Abī Ṭālib (First Imām) and Fātimah Zahrā (SA). Imam Husayn (A) is an important figure in Islām. He is a member of the Ahl al-Bayt (the family of Muhammad (saw)) and Ahl al-Kisā (Of the "Inner Mantle" of the Prophet (saw)), as well as being the third Imām, and one of The Fourteen Infallibles or "Masumeen". Imam Husayn (A) is a martyr who fought tyranny. He refused to pledge allegiance to the unjust Yazīd (L), the Umayyad. As a consequence, Imam Husayn was martyred & beheaded in the Battle of Karbalā in 680 (61AH) by Shimr Ibn Thil-Jawshan (L). The anniversary of this Martyrdom is called Āshūrā (the "tenth" day of Muharram).
