Queen actually did a very fascinating tribute to "The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke" that is worth a listen for those who like Richard Dadd's work.

@joshje777 Thank you Joshje!
Creative people throughout history have been labelled as mentally ill, perhaps some were, however I believe many were simply eccentric.

The music in the beginning has such a 'Fable' like feel to it, the game Fable I mean :)
-
@poltallach... Indeed, I've also been thinking about that...
-
@joshje777 perhaps he wasn't mentally ill...simply labelled as such. Who really knows?

I wish there was more to this segment. His artwork is lovely. Of course, that doesn't make up for his crime, but there you go.

his paintings must have schocked his contemporaries.I can imagine people fainting.

is this programm on dvd? Dadd was not just a 'faery' artist but had painted other genres. Writers such as Angela Carter and Terry Pratchett have used him for inspiration. BTW, his patron on the Egypt tour was Thomas Phillips, who was to play a part in suppressing the Chartist rebellion.
