Jesus IS the living word come down to save humanity. The word is alive and not bound to any book. The living word cannot be wholly contained in any manuscript. The word is proclaimed by way of Tradition just as Jesus did. Jesus did not read or teach from any book because Jesus IS the living word.

Faith comes by hearing, hearing what? Hearing the word of God. How do we come to hear the word of God? Through the Traditional teachings of Jesus and the Apostles.

Jesus said to preach the word.

Preach the living word in the name of Jesus to the ends of the earth. Tradition always precedes scripture. Tradition holds the keys to interpretation. .
Bibles cannot preach, they cannot speak, they have no authority. The bible has no power given to it by Jesus, the bible has no authority, the bible is NOT the living word of God.

The living word comes from the lips of those who were entrusted with the gospel. Tradition always precedes scripture.

Scripture is dead on its own.

hop, part 2...

Even then, the Gospels were not universally known for many years, as they were evangelist writings sharing the good news of Christ to particular audiences. Also, they are oral tradition in print, and were compilations of the teachings and writings of the evangelists. (See John 21:24)

The NT texts all have a specific purpose, and they do not include every teaching that developed. As a Protestant, many of your core beliefs did not develop until after the Reformation.

hop,

"the prominence the CC church provides Mary is based on Catholic tradition alone and is not part of the gospel."

Tradition: What we know, is what the early church relied upon. The first gospel was not written until 5 years after the death of Paul.

Everything that we know, understand and believe in not found within Scared Scripture. That is not, and never has been its purpose. The Jews never viewed scripture that way, and had many authentic teachings based on oral tradition.

1ton,

I want to chime in.

You are correct with your explanation of the authorship of the scriptures, but so is ChrstnaMac.

It is a mixture which must be taken in context and explained correctly to avoid confusion.

Well you were taught wrong. God breathed the Holy Spirit which guided the writers of the Bible. The Catholic Church is the Church that compiled the Bible around 300AD. The Catholic Church is the one who chose what books to be contained in the canon. That is until the Protestants removed seven books. The true Church is the Catholic Church. Please educate yourself on issues before you go around making us Catholics look bad.

njp,

You are actually stating what 1ton and CM stated when you put them together.

We need to be careful when we use the term "God Breathed", for the Protestants interpret that to be on the same plane as dictation.

I believe that you did a great job of explaining here!

John the Baptist baptised people as a sign of repentance of their sins. When Christ asked him for baptism, John correctly stated that Christ did not NEED it because he was sinless. However Christ used His baptism as a prefiguring of His own Death and Resurrection, to reveal Who He was ("This is My beloved Son") and to institute Christian baptism as the sacrament of our sharing in His Death and Resurrection.

Mis-conception of the ignorant off of mis-interpretation of Catholic Teaching (i use to be one). The Holy Church confirms she compiled the bible 73 wonderful book canon and the one's who wrote the Books of the Gospel and the letters were catholic,Mark, luke,John and Matthew, Paul and the First Pope Peter by the Holy spirit.

The Church wrote the NT under inspiration of the holy spirit and compiled it.

OT-Jewish>NT-Catholic= Inspired by the Word of GOD
