A rare glimpse at the day tour roll call in early September 1989.

I made this now 20 year old video before I went to Holland, so I could show my relatives, the cops that I worked with...who were in my opinion, the best cops in the world. Some of the officers in this video have passed on. Many have retired since. But the sign states, and humbly implies, "WELCOME TO THE 44TH PRECINCT Home Of The Busiest Cops In The World". I stand by that. Capt Harvey Katowitz and Lt Berman stand by, as the Patrol Supervisor, Sgt Laura Douglas conducts a standing roll call (another dying tradition). Turn up the sound, so that you can hear the wonderful clank of the wooden nightsticks (the end of an era), as the some tardy day tour officers arrive at the end, ha ha ha.

Front Row (Left To Right): Paul Woods, Charlie Wassil, James Ruane, Eddie Young, Al Ubides, Danny Hayes, Mike Gambert, Sam Borrero, Al Morales (R.I.P.), Joseph Curtain, Gary Maroni, Kevin O'Keefe;

Back Row (L to R): Andrew Doherty, Chris White, Kevin Kelly, Ron Connelly, Pete Grosbeck, Joel Plass, Hector Maldonado, Miles Prior, Juan Perez, Joe Roman, James Held, Unidentified officer standing in corner by basement stairs.

Towards the end of roll call, Jim Glenn suddenly is next to Paul Woods (was he in the lounge? ;) )

Appearing Late for roll call: Eddie Vazquez, Steve Burns
Called (but upstairs): Tommy Mateo, Artie Greco, Kevin Kryzak.

  • Serpico there, no...but there were other rats nearby.

  • NYPD is the best comedy show since Amos and Andy left the air

  • Drum roll, please!

  • before forced diversity

  • @haywood16 Diversity actually made it interesting. The problem is poor screening of applicants just to get the hiring numbers that the NYPD wants.
