I associate this song with Baby Washington. Didn't hear Aretha's version until about twenty years ago. A pleasant surprise. Love both versions.

zzzxtreme, i dont know if this was segregated but i do know. that aretha once said in the 70's when she was going to do a performance in south africa, that either the crowd be intergrated, or fully black as she wont sing to a fully white crowd, as her people should be able to come to hear her sing. aretha was an activist in her own small way.
At that time Black artist were allowed to perform their songs on television. But it was very rare, almost unheard of to have Blacks in the audience or used as back-up dancers.
