  • When a crisis devalues capital, could workers' organizations purchase some of it at the new low prices, with the aim of producing for need and escaping the wage system? Or is that theoretically unsound?

  • Yes I agree with DavidKendall this this is a good idea but it would require some sort of political organization a great deal of capital at its disposal or a political party with the power to seize fallow property and reallocate it. This should be on the political agenda of left parties.

  • Good thinking Hebaru San. If there was a cooperative (community-owned and controlled) financial system in place to help with an effort like that (like the Common Good Bank, for example), this would be a very good idea. But no such organization exists at the moment. David Schweickart actually suggests that the government could (and should) buy up all the abandoned capital (at discount prices) and nationalize it. This isn't very likely though under a government controlled by capitalist interests.

  • Resurgence of the economy after initial shock of crisis = organization against capitalism? ---- Perhaps. Interesting thought at least. But for a post-capitalist alternative to take root, at least the bare-bones of the new system must already be in place -- (like the kid in the t-shirt says) -- and they're not at this time.
