This is just some random footage from the Nov 5, Siu Lim Tao and Chi Sau seminar with my Sifu, Matt Johnson. We had a blast covering the Wing Chun's first form and revisiting the fundamentals of Chi Sau!!!
@ratty8358 LOL!! That sounds about right....ummmm...I use some yiu ma....if you put too much at the elbow you will give too much energy from the arms that can be borrowed so I use some of the hips to drive a side forward and such....it will also depend what level a student i am chi sauing with.....the the lower the level, the less yiu ma, the higher, the more yiu ma has seemed to work for me
@rgvwingchun He still teaches the same method...although when you chi sau with him does seem to contradict this advice! Is the forwarding just through elbow energy or is there any Yui (waist) put into the the forwarding?
@ratty8358 this is what my Sifu has taught me that he gets from Ip Ching....I know Kwok teaches the rolling way different, at least he was when I trained with him
@rgvwingchun Yeah I think you have got what I meant basically they are just raising their elbow up and dow but wrists stays were it is rotating. Is this how Ip Ching teaches the rolling?
@ratty8358 or if I wanted to be a bit more aggressive I would go forward with the energy of my fook and slip right through their improper energy....its really up to you what you prefer
@ratty8358 mmmmm....if i understand what your saying, probably not....I might put some forward energy in the fook actually because if they don't have forward energy then they are probably using their bong incorrectly (as a lift) and the forward pressure will burn out their shoulder. Then again, if I am not being as aggressive, I might just ride it to play along, depending on the skill level of the practitioner.....
lol right I have another query on this. If your partner does not apply this forward energy with tan to bong would you still let your fook follow the redirection? Cheers keep up the good work
@ratty8358 on the return to tan, I apply enough pressure to maintain my elbow at a one fist dstance from my body but not more cause they can borrow that energy with a pak sau.....if they put too much fook energy high or low, you just inside pak sau that away
@rgvwingchun Hi Ive been utilisng this method more and more and really like it. I understand that when you roll from Tan to Bong you apply some forward energy and when your partner holds position with fook sau you make the transition to Bong. However when you return from your Bong to Tan Sau what direction of energy are you using and is this in response to energy applied by a high fook sau? Cheers
