Ich spür in mir (I Feel In Me) Langs. Walzer aus dem Pola Negri Tonfilm "Mazurka" (Kreuder /Rameau) - Theo Heldt und sein Orchester, Gesang: Heinz Larsen, Clangor 1935 (German product)

NOTE: The sensational appearance of Pola Negri in the Third Reich hit movie "Mazurka" (1935) was enthusiastically acclaimed by the nazi film critics, who in their reviews skipped facts uncomortable for the Nazi propaganda, such as her whisky and cocaine addiction, as well as Gypsy blood in her veins (gosspis about her Jewish roots are not true; she was a daughter of a 100% simple Polish girl from nearby Lipno - a small town in Cuiavia, Poland, and a Gypsy from Slovakia). The world outside Nazi Deutschland, however, observed her flirting with Dr. Joseph Goebbels' film empire in Babelsberg with mixed feelings. Her acting in the movie was "breathtaking" and that admitted everybody, who saw that film, many noted, however, that filming her face gave better results from a distance. In close ups - due to the visible changes of her skin from the alcohol overdose and drug addiction - a veil was used to cover the lens and produce the "dimlight effect". Film was directed by a distinguished actor of Austrian origin Willy Forst, music was composed by Peter Kreuder - pianist, bandleader and one of best German composers of light music in the XXth century. His were unforgetable hits of Greta Keller and Marlene Dietrich ("Jonny") in the "Weimar times" of German song history. Nevertheless, he successfully continued his career in the nazi Germany.

  • Well, MY Darling Grzegorz,

Pola sure had a FACE for the Cinema.

She even looks SENSATIONAL on YT.

    Exotic, Dramatic, Sultry, Sensuous~~~~~~

You have posted some Fabulous photos.

    What FACE could compare today?

    I forgot...she even had RUDY?? :-D

    The music is Hauntingly MAGNIFICENT!

I love the entire post..Thank you for the tantalizing tidbits about Pola. and this post.

  • Genia, it was a surprise to me to read about her problem with dope & booze. It is rarely mentioned in available memoirs - to say nothing about her own "Pamiętniki" I bought some time ago in a second hand bookstore. As many people say, she was a nice person, she helped others - e.g. her companion actresses from Warsaw, who used to visit her in 1930s in Europe - when she already was an international megastar - emphasise her natural kindness, hospitality and straightforwardness.

  • Hello Grzegorz - her appearance and low voice - is intriguing - ideal for Tango which she did superbly as well. I also like her Gypsy romances. Her screen presence also has this eternal, everlasting appeal! Thanks for this vid!
