degradation, when someone is afraid even walking at night at the streets of London..
bottom line is, that generalisations and stereotypes citations are the finest examples of civilization degradation and absebse of true education.. what we need to do at these moments where Europe and Euorpean values go through such hard times and crisis, is everyone of us make his self criticism and try to do his best for things to improve and develop..

my dear, nobody said that in each country there are not things that need to be taken care of or to be imrpoved, but your comments are just generalisations.. last time when I was in the UK, only in 5 days I saw three incidents of people locking their dog in the car for more than half an hour during the heat wave wih the windows shut ! so, does this mean that british are all like this or just that these people were stupid and ignorant ?
and please, do not lecture about civilization

... Ellie was burned with cigarettes on Salamina, Kali was skeletal and in season when I found her in Halkidiki in 2003.... I know of dogs and even a horse being dragged behind moving vehicles till they died....last year came face -to-face with a dog that had been hanged the night before (Crete... In proportion to the population and the size of the country (Greece has only around 12 million peoplecompared to 60 plus million in the UK), animal suffering and abuse is everywhere one goes in Greece

Most of the stray dogs were not born on the street, but are discards by people who don't want to spend money to sterilise their dogs I don't know where in Greece you live, but of the 14 dogs we've adopted from Greece over the years (7 still with us), one had the ends of her front paws chopped off, the other had tendons cut on his hind legs (surgery on both legs cost us - in today's money - 7,000euros.),Chrisuli was hit by a car and left to die on the road, Mala was shot in the face on Crete....

@bonniekali...you can also google "animal abuse in England"...You will find many "interesting" stories there, too. In every country there are bad ppl who abuse animals so do not try to show that this exists only here
-
@bonniekali we do not abuse animals! In fact most of greek people love animals I have 2 cats and most of my friends also have pets. There is, indeed a problem with the strays but what would you propose to do? Lock them in a cage where they would spend the rest of their life? There is not enough demand by ppl to take them to their homes and there is not enough money to properly hospitalize all the strays. So we vaccine as many as we can and leave them on the streets where nearby ppl feed them

bonniekali hmmm america...yeh and abusin people is sooo better. so killin people is much better than havin stray dogs and cats. that comes from laziness "the mess that greece is in" it is better than startin wars and killin innocent.

IonianQueen.......... google the words 'animal abuse in Greece' on You Tube and you will find many videos. slideshows etc. Don't blame the Americans and the British for the mess Greece is in.... it's the CORRUPTION and TAX EVASION that's been a part of Greek life that is the cause of the mess. A day of reckoning had to come sooner or later.....

I HATE the way 60& of Greeks abuse and neglect animals; there are tens of thousands of strays, tens of thousands of dogs chained to rusty oil barrels 24/7, often with no food or water in sight..... thousands of dogs and cats POISONED every year, thousands of litters of PUPPIES and KITTENS thrown into rubbish bins..... is that a face of Greece Greeks are proud to show the world?? Is such ignorance & cruelty a cign of covilisation or DEGRADATION!!!
I love the Country of Greece. I would love to visit it again soon.
