The Seaview surfaced in the 1961 movie, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. The Vessel is a Nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine nearly 573 feet long with a displacement of 16500 tons. It was designed by Admiral Harriman Nelson with the support of the Bureau of Marine Exploration, the US Department of Science and the US Navy. 3d model created by John Picha.

The reference material on Irwin Allen News Network was invaluable to the construction of this 3d model. You can find out more about them at. http://www.iann.net/

  • The earlier 8 window bow looks a lot cooler.

  • Doesn't it look like a late 50s-early 60s Caddy with the big tail fins?

  • @marcd30319 Or as Starlog Magazine said in an article on VTTBOTS many years ago, it had a design that 'would make nautical engineers groan in horror'. Fins and wings = drag.

  • CGI is excellent but I have a number of problems with the Seaview's design -- its conning tower sail is too large and too far back; the hull design does not make provision for the reactor, engine room, and missile compartment; and the forward windows are too large, making the Seaview look much smaller than it ought to be. While the Cadillac fins balances out the manta-ray wings, docking the Seaview would be a bitch because of those manta-ray wings. Seaview looks great but not very practical.

  • Needs a bit of length for starters.

  • This is awesome. Let me know if you want to model the Jupiter 2
