i wonder if he sees himself as Kazakh/Russian (since he competed for the Soviet Union and obviously lived in Russia since Nastia was born there) or American.
when the play the Russian National Anthem when they're in the car, i can't tell if it's what they're actually playing or if it's what NBC is playing.

Like the interesting passing of the torch b/w father and daughter here with Valeri and Nastia. I also find it funny to see Valeri, who grew up in Cold War Russia, chilling out and engaging in one of the iconic American tradition of backyard grilling.
