The only reason hst's have better acceleration is because you have 2 locomotives, one at each end. And less coaches. Stick one cl. 43 on 11 mark 2's and then see which has the better acceleration.........
@ wattass7 - Whilst the Deltics were great locos, the Cl 43 HSTs were a significant improvement - better acceleration and 25% higher regular top speed and that's when they were introduced in 1976. They've outlasted the Deltics (which did 20 years) by over 50% and the only withdrawls have been a result of accident damage and the only reason they're now being re-engined with MTU engines is for better economy and emissions. Quite simply the Cl43 HSTs are amazing and deserve to be recognised as such
im gobsmacked 16 of these fantastic loco were scrapped and they then have the cheek to bring in a class 43 progress i think not bring back a new fleet of deltics with 3 napier engines, class video
RSG Must have had her Fuel Rack and Engine Governors turned down a little.I can remember the Deltics pulling away from here at a much faster rate of knots.
I wouldn't blame the owners as these Deltics 18/25s are very very complex Diesels and most of them did have about
5000 Hours on them when British Rail sold them on.Also the very hard use they had and you have to Nurse them a bit as you do not want a Leg out of Bed as it's a
York is such a dull place without these magnificent machines. I used to spend many a happy time in the early eighty's, spotting the variety of motive power that ploughed through York - anything could turn up, Deltics were expected, but now and again a 50 would make an appearance or even a 33, but now we have a very dull railway , just "Ying Yings"!!
i look in amazement at york, it was like crewe before the new track alignment, a complex web of lines eminating all over the place.strange to see trains passing through at 80mph.
i don,t suppose the independant lines underneath the station get used as much

i don,t suppose the independant lines underneath the station get used as much
nowadays as there is,nt much congestion
in the station.

i could,nt waste a fine opertunity for my first behind one and travelled all the way to birmingham where it was relaced by a cl86.

mischief670-
its nice to see the deltics on what was considered 81-87 territory at crewe.
one of the most powerful mainline loc,os in its time.
a very impressive power/weight ratio - slightly over3300 at 3330 hp.
