A friend of mine had a mother like this bitch, who openly talked about how great and wonderful her sister was and all of this crap..my friend grew up feeling like she was burden, instead of a blessing, as if she was simply unimportant. A few years ago, her sister was in a car accident and her mother said "If she dies, I have nothing left to live for." I guess that was the last straw for my friend, because she ended up killing herself with a drug overdose, the day after her sister came home.

It is interesting to hear that the reason why she favors the firstborn child is for reasons that the child provides to her, not innate qualities of the child. How incredibly selfish!

I can't believe this!!! Why didn't she stop and just have the one 'perfect child?' Aside from the fact her less-loved child will see this some day, her attitude is damaging and will over the years harm the child psychologically. And low self esteem can and usually does lead to life long struggle with depression and have dire consequences. Get over your self obsessed garbage and be a proper parent. Geez. Make an effort!

my mam has four of us ,and she loves us all the same but in different ways, we have all been spoilt to be honest, i'm the only girl and the first girl in 75years so my parents didn't have favourite but i was my nan's favourite !!

We are reaping the excesses of America. Spoiled me-centered children grow up to be me-centered adults who become me-centered parents. Selfish parents interact with their children based solely on the benefits the relationship offers them, not the child. Sadly, this kind of excessive attention often ruins the kiddo who is supposed to be the most prized.

Wow. I wish I could just take that baby and give her the love she deserves. What a terrible mother. Having favorites is one thing. Saying it outright for the child and the rest of the world to hear is another.
