@nimbonate It can't though, that is a very dangerous line of thinking.

I like the south park answer "cant god be the answer to why and not the answer to how?"

I read an article about how people like Sam Harris tries to explain how his beliefs are better and you should believe his beliefs. Rather than pick a religion, he would rather come up with ways to deceive you into thinking you are wrong to believe in religion. The reality of it is this, to be an Atheist you believe there is no God or Gods. So in believing there is no higher power is essentially a religion, it just does not contain God.
-
Oh Sam. You are so damn amazing to listen to. Eloquence is not good enough of a word for you.

It's kind of messed up how you people keep mocking each other because what you believe is different. I don't try to force my religion on anybody. I let people believe what they whant to believe. I for example believe both in god and in evolution. I think it is dumb for you guys to fight over things that you clearly don't understand. Don't get mad at others because they do not see the world the way you do.

@fourcams I think people can contribute great idea and they might happen to be religious but my slant on religion is that you can't reasonably take it seriously. Love and forgiveness are indeed worthwhile but one doesn't need Jesus for that.
I've realized that it's not possible to logically embrace the government without being immoral. They just don't mix. What other business or relationship uses the threat of force against it's customers/partners?

@BrainInSkull Yes, unreasonable thinking is the problem. But shedding religion and the state is just plain laziness. Why shed them? Why not be discerning about the details instead? How come atheists think not one religious person ever came up with a good idea? Something that might be worth embracing? When Jesus talked about love and forgiveness, was he just being a fool?
-
@fourcams Indeed so the issue is unreasonable thinking. It seems then the solution might be reasonable thinking which sheds religion and the state.

I believe in God and Jesus but not most people's idea of religion. I don't believe that God hates gays and other sinners so much. If he hated them so much, why did He sacrifice His son for us?
It's funny how people say the "you're going to hell" phrase ALL THE TIME. Doesn't the Bible teach that God is the only who judges? ...then who the hell are you? Also, as a Christian you're suppose to forgive. OMG, 2 women want to marry? HOW IN THE FUCK DOES THAT AFFECT YOUR LIFE ANYWAY? Religious wackos are SO fucking stupid. God = Santa Claus, same thing.

That's probably the most intelligent response I'll get from a theist. You know you just contradicted yourself by saying gay marriage is a sham but saying they're not devils (We know you think they're devils secretely). And no, I'm not going to leave this country, after it's reformed by younger people religion will be more or less just a bad memory for this country. The "primary morals this country was built on" LMAO. Yes, the morals that burned "witches" alive at the stake 300 years ago? Idiot.
