@margolise Of course the treatment was free to the patient, that is the whole point. The patients charges had to be spread out over all of the other paying cutomers/patients, siince the hospital does have to pay all of its staff and vendors, and therefore has to get the money from somewhere. Since hospitals get some of their money, either directly or indirectly fro the U.S. govt., that means that every taxpayer in the entire country is contributing at least a little something.

I'd like some additional info. Was all of the treatment free? She says these stories affect health care costs for all of us, and yet the hospital is willing to spend $30,000 doing the work of the police and border patrol? I'd rather see that $ spent on other things, like health care. I'm not defending illegal aliens, nor do I believe hospitals should have the LEGAL responsibility to treat them. If individual doctors want to do so out of the goodness of their hearts, fine.
