Olga Korbut:
Olga won gold medals for her beam and floor routines in the Munich Olympics, and returned with the team in 1976. Olga was a great gymnast, but more than that she became an icon, a legend. She did more to ease the tensions of the Cold War than all the politicians and diplomats of the day put together.

  • Olga definitely isn't over-rated she started the acrobatic movement in women's gymnastics.

  • Olga began the revolution in gymnastics. Nadia finished what Olga had started. They were both giants of their times.

  • only 4years apart not really different times

  • olga is my fav

  • @sum1ecclectic You know nothing about gymnastics if you think Olga was over-rated.

  • @RachelMosen i agree, both women contributed a lot to gymnastics.

  • They're both amazing. Olga started the revolution in gymnastics and Nadia just finished it. Its impossible to compare the styles of the two because they're completely different.

  • Olga brought in the tiny figured, circus tumbling charm, and Nadia brought in the athletic, straight-lined stoic perfection. Both had overly pushy coaches who thought outside the box with gymnastics, and that changed it's future from being a women's sport with balletic movements to a tiny figured, under 18, tumble till you drop brigade.

  • Olga steals my heart - with all due respect.

  • No athlete should be compared to any other that is not a contemporary. These two are legends of their time.

However, what I do realise by watching this is why people always said Nadia revolutionised gymnastics, turning it into what we know today as the "modern" sport. Olga does something almost closer to ballet or dancing. Nadia's routine reminds me of the gymnastics I grew up watching.

Nothing bad there mind you either way, just fascinating.

  • they were from different times, you can't really compare them properly, they have their own originality from different times.
