u have to remember this is iska circuit. they do some crazy stuff. that doesnt even look like karate. jessica mellon former member of my karate school does belly dancing in her OLD form. booga head u r in a way right but its not free form its open or creative. in no way is this meant to b rude.
I have no problem with adding ur own moves if they are functional however a kick is supposed to hurt someone not be a gymnastic manoeuvre, no doubt all who do this free form have skills, but predominantly all show.
@r717 yeah I get where you're coming from. I always thought traditional martial arts kata were created to teach specific technique, movement, concepts etc. Each movement has a purpose, not just looking cool. SO I guess this girl can explain the practical principles behind her 'made up' katas too then? As far as I know, in martial arts form follows function... a technique looks a partiular way simply to achieve a purpose. Is that the case here?
@Gronked Well when he said that it got me thinking as well. She mixes all types of forms which to me is great! If it was a traditional kata, all you would see is that kata. But she's doing a specialty where you can add your own moves. Do you get what I mean? She's doing a kata but adds kicks and punches.
"She's got moves that nobody else can do." Excuse my ignorance but what is the point of this competition? If she has "her own moves" then she's certainly not doing a martial arts form/kata. So what's it all for?
