Could Pigeon lake be the reason for the lack of severe weather between Leduc and Ponoka, Alberta?

Well I did catch it red handed, It does this a lot(dies near pigeon), and thus i can safely say That Sever weather is very unlikely in my area(Wetaskiwin) until late July or august when the flow is from the south as opposed to the west and hot weather.

I bought a camera($750 plus $350 in accessories) especially to get lightning and auroras at night but nothing worth photographing since June 6th 2008(40 days!).

I watch the new about awesome light shows in, Edmonton,Red Deer, Calgary, Camrose, and almost all of Alberta, There must be a reason for this area to miss out on all the fireworks recently

  • This same thing happened again the next day.

  • Well, netook8, I guess you will have to wait to get a vehicle, then you can chase them.

  • yea at a very high cost of time. I need to enter the trades and go full time to get enough to own and maintain a car or truck and chase.

    DAMN gas prices

  • 2008 was a very pathetic storm season maybe we'll get some good storms in 2009 , because what i'm noticing is that we have been getting 2-3 years of active storm season's example 2000/01 were active 02 was also active 03 wasn't 04 was a bit active 05/06/07 were all active then 08 the crap year

  • Calgary is having the very same issue. No less than fifteen storms - including one with a hook echo and mid-level rotation - have dissipated in seconds upon hitting the city limits - or split and go around us. And they all reform after they pass through! I don't get it!

  • I think things are beginning to flare up a bit over the last 2 weeks or so.

Ive noticed often during a typical weather pattern (when storms form over the foothills moving NNE) they often die out or shift southward missing the city.. But during.. say.. a low pressure system, severe storms here tend to be a lot more likely to hit the city.

  • I know, it seems to always be like that, until the last week of July. Very frustrating. This summer has been pretty crappy so far in terms of storms.

  • Ken and I discussed about situations like this...Edmonton is almost immune to thunderstorms!!
