Another great guide, I was wondering, about permissions, say I want to have a user able to up and download via ftp to folder blah, and another user only able to download from that folder, these permission how would they be made?
@tommy5c Thanks for the reply. That is the error I get upon trying to reach it from any computer within my network. Also I did check and double check all spelling of the directory and all is correct. Anymore suggestions would be great
@RetroGam3Nerd a second thought is to make sure that the file existed inside of your freenas. if you are off even as far as a capitol letter where it's not supposed to be it will reject the path to the file directory. double check your file path and make sure you don't have any mistakes.
@RetroGam3Nerd it looks like it's bouncing you inside of your machine 127.0.0.1 is local host to your computer. My suggestion it to attempt to reach your ftp from inside your home network first, and verify that it is accessible. so it would be "your Freenas local IP" inside of a filezilla type FTP client. and your user and pass. if you have success locally then your router or ISP may be to blame. as we mentioned early in the show you must assign the port forwarding inside of your router.
I followed your directions step by step and I have searched for two days with no luck to the issue I am having. I can't access my FTP Server, I noticed in the log when I try to access the FTP it states "Oct 11 19:56:26 Server proftpd[13593]: 127.0.0.1 (::ffff:10.10.11.17[::ffff:10.10.11.17]) - ftp: Directory /mnt/Server/FTP/ is not accessible." what can the problem be?
It might be helpful to mention that many Internet providers block port 21 and to use another port and let your router map that port to port 21 on your local network.
So the url would look like ftp://your-ip:other-port/
