Featuring an all-star cast and a much-celebrated soundtrack by Queen, this is the original and best version of the sci-fi classic Flash Gordon, based on the comic books by Alex Raymond and Don Moore. Enjoy once again, this time in HD as well as gloriously camp, lurid Technicolor.

Flash (Sam J Jones) is a football hero skyjacked aboard Dr Zarkov's (Topol, Fiddler on the Roof) spaceship along with the beautiful Dale Arden (Melody Anderson). The threesome is drawn into the influence of the planet Mongo where they encounter Ming the Merciless (Max Von Sydow, Shutter Island, The Exorcist, The Seventh Seal) and together must foil his plot to destroy Earth. Also Timothy Dalton (Licence to Kill, Living Daylights) Richard O'Brien (Rocky Horror Picture Show), Peter Duncan (TV's Blue Peter!) and Robbie Coltrane (TV's Cracker).

  • Okay, so Emperor Ming said "Remove the earth woman, prepare her for our pleasure" then it changes scenes to Flash Gordon being led down an aisle naked.... Well the music is by Queen, so why not I guess.....

  • Grr. The US gets a Bluray with just three featurettes. No commentary, no documentaries. Nothing. Sucks.

  • The intro is great. Loved it when i was a kid. Queen aaa. Dr. Doom was in it too (Klytus) eh eh

  • I have the DVD. I grew up with this movie... This story goes back to the early silent films.

  • Yeah, OK, a then-unknown Robbie Coltrane is in it for two seconds closing the airplane door...

  • At 1:13 she shooting real fire, REAL FIRE!

Not CGI but the real 5h1t.

Who would have thought about using real fire in movies was even possible.

I believed it had to be CGIed because it couldn't be artistically photographed, like vampires.

  • Even though it was the last republican neoliberal cold-war era, movies form the 80's were so much better than the ones we have now.

If it werent for Christopher Nolan and Ridely Scott, I wouldn't even bother to go to the cinema anymore.

  • yay.

  • After viewing this copy of the trailer, the trailer that's on the Univesal U.S. Blu looks like total crap, I would have loved to see the trailer that looked this good on the Blu-ray.
