Grade 13 are six girls from Brooklyn, Harlem, and Queens, ages 15 to 18, who wrote and recorded an album of amazing all-original material. Their songs confront dark subjects like society's neglect of the poor and powerless, absent fathers, teen pregnancy and drugs, cruel and indifferent boys, and teenage alienation, but they also celebrate empowerment through hiphop, families, and love. The music mixes r&b with hip hop, pop and punk rock.
Grade 13 was created as part of viBeSongMakers, a free, afterschool music education program run by viBe Theater Experience. viBe is a nonprofit organization that empowers teenage girls in New York City through the collaborative performing arts.
